Dear friends,
I am writing this short newsletter having just returned from Seoul. A selection of my photographs is currently on show at the Haeden Museum as part of its new exhibition, 길 위의 파롤, or in Japanese, 路上のパロール. It is an exhibition of 20 photographers based in Japan and Korea. I attended the opening reception.
The museum is a fantastic work of modern architecture, in a beautiful natural setting. It is filled with light and space. The printing and framing of my photographs was the best I have ever seen. I am grateful for the extremely kind hospitality of the museum director and the exhibition organizer, who made me feel immediately at home.
I was very impressed by the number of visitors who came for the reception. I made new friends, and signed exhibition catalogs. I had great conversations about Korean and Japanese photographic cultures. I came away feeling excited to learn more, and re-energized to pursue my own photography.
It is the hope of the exhibition to create discourse and understanding between the photographic art worlds of Japan and Korea. Based on the opening, I think it is bound to be successful.
I’ll likely have more to say about some or all of this in upcoming newsletters. For now, my mind is still buzzing.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
Joel
